Smart Hybrid Technology - 4 Terms You Should Know | Arenaworld

Smart Hybrid Technology by Maruti Suzuki offers a truly empowered driving experience, improving the driving performance as well as fuel efficiency. Currently available in 6 Maruti Suzuki models namely Baleno, Ciaz, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza and XL6, this innovative technology is practical and future forward!

Here are 4 important terms that you must know to understand how Maruti Suzuki Smart Hybrid cars work: -

⦁ Integrated Starter Generator (ISG)

In Smart Hybrid technology, a conventional alternator is replaced by an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) that is connected to a dual-battery setup. The ISG is responsible for converting the energy produced from regenerative braking, automatically restart the engine (Idle Stop Start), and supplement the power of the engine during acceleration (Torque Assist).

⦁ Brake Energy Regeneration

ISG converts the kinetic energy produced at the time of braking and deceleration into electrical energy and then stores it in the dual high-capacity battery setup (one Li-Ion and one Lead Acid). This energy from regenerative braking is then used by ISG for Idle Stop Start as well as Torque Assist functions.

⦁ Idle Stop Start

At a time when the car is at a standstill (at a red light or in traffic) and optimal conditions are met, Idle Stop Start turns off the car. And, as soon as you depress the clutch, the ISG uses the energy stored in the dual-battery setup to turn the car on. When it comes to everyday driving, this feature helps save fuel when the car is in idle, thereby boosting fuel efficiency.

⦁ Torque Assist

In this motor function, the ISG again uses the energy stored in the advanced dual battery setup to supplement the engine power during acceleration. In doing so, Smart Hybrid Technology reduces the engine load at that time and helps enhance fuel efficiency.

Maruti Suzuki is committed to creating innovative technologies that contribute to a greener and more sustainable future - our range of Smart Hybrid cars reiterates that commitment.
